workspacebrussels Studio Residency Open Call for Artists 2026

workspacebrussels runs studio residencies for artists who need space and time to develop work rather than to present a finished piece. Fifteen projects are selected in this round, for residencies taking place across the second half of the following year.

Who can apply

The call is open to artists of all nationalities, at any career stage, working in arts and design. There is no academic requirement. Applications are read in Dutch, French or English, and the organisation states plainly that it will read or listen to you in any of the three. That last phrasing is not decorative: it means an audio or video submission is acceptable if writing in one of those languages is the obstacle, which removes a barrier that quietly filters out artists working in other traditions.

What is provided

Selected projects receive a flat fee of €750, VAT included, covering travel expenses and lunch. Overnight accommodation is offered to artists or team members based abroad, subject to availability in the guesthouse, which has two bedrooms with two single beds each and a baby cot on request.

Read that budget carefully before applying. It is a facility residency rather than a funded commission: the value is the studio, the time and the accommodation, not the fee. An artist who needs to cover living costs for the residency period will have to arrange that separately.

Deadline and timing

Apply by 1 December 2026 for a residency between August and December 2027, with the selection announcement at the end of February 2027. The lead time is long, so the project you propose has to be one you will still want to make more than half a year later.

Before you apply

Be specific about what the studio makes possible that your own working conditions do not. A residency panel is choosing between artists who all have good projects; what separates them is whether the space itself is the missing piece.
