Editorial policy

This page explains how listings and guides on AfriWay are produced, who is responsible for them and what rules the editorial process follows.

Only the official source

Every fact shown on a listing is taken from the official page of the programme: the page published by the university, foundation, company or institution that runs it. We do not copy facts from blogs, social media posts, newsletters or other aggregators. If the official page does not state something, the listing does not state it either.

Deadlines follow an even stricter rule. A deadline appears on AfriWay only when it is written literally on the official page next to a clear deadline cue, or when two independent publishers confirm the same date. A deadline that cannot be confirmed in one of these two ways is left empty rather than guessed.

Written from facts, not translated

Each listing exists in five languages. The texts are not translations of each other. They are written from the same structured facts, so that a reader in any language sees the same eligibility, the same benefits and the same deadline. Each language version carries a short regional note pointing out what matters most for readers of that language, such as regional quotas, language requirements or the countries that are eligible.

How the texts are written

The texts on this site are drafted by a language model and checked by a person before they go live. Readers are entitled to know how what they read was produced.

The model gets no open prompt and adds no knowledge of its own. It receives only the structured facts already verified against the official page — eligibility, funding, levels, fields, dates, the official link — and writes them in the language of the page. Automated checks then reject any draft stating a number, date or country outside those facts, repeating the same fact in several sentences, or giving a deadline other than the verified one. Such a draft is rewritten or withheld, never published as is.

A review date on a guide means a person read it against the official sources that day.

Guides and articles

Guides are written from the site's own database of listings and from official programme pages. They cite the official sources they rely on, and they are reviewed by the editorial team before publication. The byline of every guide is the organisation, not an invented person. A guide is updated or withdrawn when the listings it relies on change.

AI tools

The eligibility check and the motivation-letter draft run on the reader's input together with the official facts of the listing. They never use information that is not on the listing, and they never replace the official page. They are rate limited per day, they do not require an account, and they store nothing about the reader beyond a hashed IP address and a random cookie identifier that expire after 90 days.

Independence

No funder, university, company or agent can pay to be listed, to be ranked higher or to have a listing described in a particular way. The site is currently unfunded. If advertising or affiliate links are introduced, they will be labelled and kept separate from listings and guides.

Responsibility and corrections

Editorial responsibility for AfriWay rests with the publisher. When we get a fact wrong, we correct it, re-verify the listing against the official page and show the new verification date. Material errors are recorded on the corrections page. Readers can report a problem at .
