IFRA-Nigeria offers grants of up to EUR 1,000 for 2027 research in the humanities and social sciences, open to all nationalities. Apply in French or English by 30 October 2026.
IFRA-Nigeria is offering research grants for 2027 to people working in the humanities and social sciences. The maximum award is EUR 1,000 per project, and the exact amount depends on the nature and the budget of what you propose. Applications close on 30 October 2026.
Who can apply
The call is open to all nationalities. It targets four groups: master's students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and professional researchers. Your project must belong to the humanities or the social sciences, and it must be hosted in one of nine countries: Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Niger, Chad or Togo.
What the grant offers
This is a small, targeted award, not a scholarship. At up to EUR 1,000, it suits a short and clearly defined stage of research, such as fieldwork in one of the host countries for a thesis chapter or an article. A modest, well-argued budget is more convincing than a large plan that the grant could never cover.
Deadline
Send your complete application by 30 October 2026 at 23:59 WAT (Lagos time). Treat this as a hard cut-off and submit a few days early.
Before you apply
- You can write your application in French or English.
- Build a realistic budget, since the size of the grant depends on it.
- Check the official IFRA-Nigeria page for the list of required documents and the submission form.
- Explain clearly why your research needs to take place in the host country you have chosen.
