DSTI-CSIR Inter-Programme Bursary Scheme 2027 for South African students

What does the bursary offer?

The Inter-Programme Bursary Scheme is funded by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation and run with the CSIR. It pays ZAR 160,000 per year at Honours, fourth-year engineering or postgraduate diploma level, ZAR 170,000 at Masters level and ZAR 180,000 at doctoral level, plus a once-off laptop allowance.

Who can apply?

Applicants must be approved for or registered in full-time study at any South African public university, in a degree aligned with the scheme's research themes: biocatalysis, bioprocessing, indigenous knowledge systems, microsystems technology, modelling and digital sciences, titanium manufacturing and water research.

What else is included?

Bursary holders get access to CSIR laboratories, conference funding, mentorship by senior CSIR professionals, research skills workshops, wellness support, thesis printing costs and possible vacation work and placements at the CSIR and affiliated organisations.
