Mastercard Foundation Doctor of Public Health Scholarships 2027

The University of Toronto awards at least 7 Mastercard Foundation scholarships for its Doctor of Public Health in the 2027-2028 academic year. Recruitment runs through the Africa Health Collaborative, and the call is much narrower than the Mastercard name suggests.

Who can apply

You must be a Sub-Saharan African citizen currently living in the region. The call is for recent alumni and graduating students of Africa Health Collaborative partner universities who have not yet started doctoral studies. The official page also asks for academic excellence and leadership during your undergraduate and master's years, academic admissibility to the programme, and a commitment to return home for its last two years.

Attending one information session was mandatory for an application to be considered. The link to the application form was shared at those sessions, which took place in August and September.

What the scholarship covers

This comprehensive scholarship offers full financial support for tuition, travel expenses, housing, food, books and other expenses for the duration of the professional programme in Canada. Scholars also join a support network and take part in orientation sessions at the start of their studies.

Deadline

Submit the completed application by 1 October 2026, 11:59 p.m. EST (Toronto time). Across Africa that moment falls in the early hours of the next day, so finishing on 1 October in your own time zone keeps you inside it. Successful applicants hear by late October and are then invited to file a separate programme application with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.

If you did not attend an information session, this round is not open to you, so prepare for the next one. Check that your university is on the Collaborative's partner list, read the Doctor of Public Health admission requirements, and write down your motivation, career goals and commitment to Africa's future, which the page says play a key role.
