Tech Policy Press Fellowship 2027: USD 10,000 remote fellowship on tech and democracy

What is the fellowship?

Tech Policy Press supports a cohort of fellows each year to pursue independent reporting and analysis on urgent questions at the intersection of technology and democracy. The 2027 fellowship starts in January 2027, runs for 12 months on a part-time basis, and is fully remote, with fellows working as independent contractors.

Who can apply?

The programme is open to candidates from around the world, and no work authorisation for any particular country is required. It targets mid-career journalists, researchers, lawyers and public policy professionals with a clear area of focus, and it particularly welcomes projects that centre communities and regions often left out of global tech policy conversations. You must show your own command of English, and at least one writing sample must be in English.

What do fellows receive?

Each fellow receives a USD 10,000 stipend, ongoing editorial guidance, monthly cohort sessions and publication on the Tech Policy Press website and newsletter. In return, fellows contribute analysis or reporting at least monthly and attend a monthly cohort meeting and editorial check-in.

How and when to apply

Complete the online form with a CV, a cover letter of no more than two pages, links to prior publications and two professional references by 11:59 p.m. EDT on 24 September 2026. Applicants are told of their status by early December 2026.
