St Leonard's College World-Leading Doctoral Scholarships 2027

The University of St Andrews offers six St Leonard's College World-Leading Doctoral Scholarships for students starting a PhD in the 2027-2028 academic year. This is the student-led scheme, so you propose your own research project, and it is open to applicants of all nationalities in any field.

You should be planning a PhD at St Andrews, in the United Kingdom. There is no restriction on nationality or subject area, which makes the scheme a realistic option for African graduates with a strong research idea.

What it offers

Each scholarship covers full tuition fees and pays an annual stipend at a rate set by the university. The figure of GBP 20,467 per year is the 2026-2027 stipend rate. The rate for 2027-2028 has not been published yet and will be announced later, so treat this amount as a guide. The scholarship runs for 42 months.

Applications opened on 19 August 2026 and close on Wednesday 20 January 2027.
