Georg Arnhold Senior Fellowship 2028 at the GEI in Germany

The Georg Arnhold Senior Fellowship brings one scholar or practitioner to the Georg Eckert Institute (GEI), the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media in Brunswick, Germany, for a six-month stay. The fellow works on a research or practice project in education for sustainable peace, with a focus on educational media and curricula at secondary-school level in any region of the world.

Who can apply

The call sets no nationality rule, so applicants from any country can apply. Scholars need a PhD and should come from the humanities, political and social sciences or education, with a project firmly located in peace education. Practitioners with high-level international experience, for example in NGO management, need at least five years of advanced professional achievement in their field. The working language at the institute is English.

What it offers

The fellowship pays a monthly stipend of EUR 3,300 for six months, plus return economy airfare to Germany. In exceptional cases a shorter stay can be arranged, with three months as the minimum. The fellow uses the GEI library of textbooks, curricula and digital educational resources, gets mentoring from GEI experts and presents the project at the institute's research colloquium.

Deadline

Submit the online application by 2 November 2026. After a pre-selection at the GEI, the Academic Advisory Board shortlists three candidates, who send a full proposal and have an online interview. The fellowship can start in January 2028 at the earliest.

Before you apply

Prepare short and longer descriptions of your project, covering its objectives, the research gap, your methods and theory, and the expected outcomes. Read the GEI policy on AI use first, because any use of AI tools must be disclosed in the form. If selected, you arrange your own passport, any visa and your health and liability insurance, and the project results should be published within one year after the fellowship ends.
