Villa I Tatti in Florence runs the Berenson Fellowship for scholars whose research explores how Italy engaged with other cultures and regions during the Renaissance. The fellowship is aimed at the arts and humanities and is open to scholars who already hold a PhD at the time of application.
Up to four fellowships are awarded each year for a residential stay at the center in Italy. Fellows receive a stipend of USD 5,200 per month plus a one-time relocation supplement of up to USD 1,800. I Tatti also arranges rent-free housing for fellows when an apartment is available, though the fellowship does not cover health insurance, which fellows must arrange themselves along with any visa or residence permit they need.
The fellowship is open to scholars from all nations, with special consideration given to candidates who do not otherwise have regular access to research materials and facilities in Italy. Applicants must be conversant in English and have familiarity with Italian, since applications may be written in either language.
