American University in Cairo Graduate Fellowships for Fall 2027

The American University in Cairo funds graduate study through two kinds of fellowships: institutional awards paid by the university and sponsored awards from private endowments and donors. Both consider academic merit and financial need, and both give preference to students who want to study full time.

What the fellowships cover

Awards take the form of full tuition coverage of nine credits per semester or partial coverage of one to eight credits. International students on a fellowship may also receive a housing allowance if they study full time. Institutional awards usually last one semester, so Fellows apply for renewal each term, and a GPA of at least 3.2 is needed to keep the award.

Who can apply

Students of any nationality admitted to a degree programme can compete, with priority for applicants fully admitted to a graduate programme and with excellent grades. Applicants provisionally admitted with remedial English requirements remain eligible. Graduate diploma students, non-degree students and students of the Master of Engineering or Master in Computing cannot receive institutional fellowships.

Dates

For fall 2027 there are two windows: cycle 1 runs from 22 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, and cycle 2 opens in April. The admission application must be submitted at least two weeks before the fellowship deadline, and the fellowship form only unlocks once the admission application and a student ID are on record, which can take a week. Start the admission file in December to be ready for cycle 1.
