What does the bursary cover?
The National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) funds South African students who are building careers in disaster risk reduction and emergency management. Successful applicants receive 100% tuition fee support, including registration, while accommodation, meals, books and travel are excluded. Qualifying master's students may also receive a research allowance capped at ZAR 11,000.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be South African citizens who have applied for, been accepted into or are registered for an undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, advanced diploma or master's programme in disaster management or fire technology and fire engineering at a recognised public higher education institution. Undergraduate and diploma applicants need a 60% academic average; master's applicants need 65% and a research proposal aligned with the NDMC's priority themes. Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
