UNU Migration Management Diploma Programme in the Netherlands 2026

The Migration Management Diploma Programme is a professional training course run by the United Nations University in the Netherlands. It is aimed at people who already work on migration in government, international organisations or civil society, and who need the analytical grounding to move from handling cases to shaping policy.

Who can apply

The programme is open to professionals from a long list of African countries spanning the whole continent, from Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia in the north to South Africa, Namibia and Botswana in the south, with Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Senegal and most others in between. No specific academic field is required. What matters is current professional involvement in migration work rather than a particular degree.

What the scholarship covers

This is a full cost package. The scholarship covers all expenses for the duration of the training, including flights, accommodation, visa fees, meals, daily living expenses, health insurance and field trip costs. Covering visa fees and field trips matters more than it sounds: those are the two items that usually fall outside a training award and quietly exclude candidates without institutional backing.

Deadline and timing

The application deadline is 1st October 2026 at 23:59 CEST. The programme itself runs for three months, from 5 April 2027 to 24 June 2027. That gap between decision and start is deliberate and useful: it leaves time to arrange leave from an employer and to process a Dutch visa, both of which take longer than applicants expect.

Be specific about the migration problem you deal with at work and what you would do differently after three months of training. A diploma programme for practitioners selects for people who will apply the material inside an institution, so naming that institution and your role in it carries real weight in the file.
