MOPGA 2027: French Government Fellowship for Early-Career Researchers

Make Our Planet Great Again is the French government's flagship fellowship for postdoctoral mobility, now in its tenth call. Applications opened on 15 September 2026 and close on 15 December 2026.

Selected researchers spend 12 months at a host laboratory in France working on a research project of their own design. Each fellowship pays a monthly allowance of EUR 2,500, plus a settling-in allowance in the first month, and includes health cover, civil liability insurance and repatriation assistance. International travel is not covered. Host laboratories sometimes help with it, but you should budget for the flight yourself.

Who can apply. You must hold a doctoral degree awarded less than five years before the deadline, hold a nationality other than French, be moving to France for the fellowship rather than already living and working there, and not have held a MOPGA fellowship before. All nationalities are eligible except French. Applications may be submitted in English or French, which makes this call unusually accessible to anglophone and francophone researchers alike.

Eligible research. Five broad areas are open, covering climate change and sustainability sciences, societal challenges linked to environmental issues, and human, animal and environmental health under a One Health approach. Projects focused only on human medicine, with no genuine environmental or animal health dimension, are not eligible.

How selection works. Applications are assessed first by scientific experts appointed by the ministry responsible for higher education and research, then by a scientific committee that makes the final choice.

You will need a host laboratory to support your application, so contact potential supervisors well before the close. The letter of support from your prospective scientific supervisor is the part of the file that takes longest to obtain.
