MPIfG Visiting Researchers Programme 2026/2027

The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies runs a Visiting Researchers Programme for the summer semester of the next academic cycle. The programme is open to professors and researchers at postdoctoral or doctoral level, from any country, whose work relates to the Institute's research programme in economic sociology and comparative and international political economy, with stays generally lasting several months.

This is a self-funded position: successful applicants are asked to provide their own funding and a funding plan for their stay, though the Institute issues a letter of invitation that can be used to approach funding bodies. Agreed stay dates cannot be postponed or split once confirmed. Selection is based on scholarly excellence and a short research proposal describing the project to be pursued at the Institute, and each visiting researcher is assigned to a director or research group leader as a preference expressed in the online application.

The Institute welcomes applications in English or German and cannot consider applications sent by email; everything must go through the online application system.
