What are the fellowships?

The Image Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University offers six competitive fellowships in 2027 for research related to photography, drawing on collections such as the Black Star archive. Alongside a full-time postdoctoral position supported with the Archive of Modern Conflict, the scheme includes the Nadir Mohamed Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Penny Rubinoff and Elaine Ling fellowships for master's-level researchers, the Howard Tanenbaum Fellowship for artistic research and the Wendy Snyder MacNeil Research Fellowship.

Who can apply?

Each fellowship sets its own level, from undergraduate students to PhD holders, so applicants choose the one that matches their qualifications and subject. Applicants of any nationality are welcome; fellows without Canadian citizenship arrange their own travel visas.

What is provided?

Stipends range from CAD 2,500 to CAD 10,000 depending on the fellowship and are intended to offset travel, research and related expenses, as fellows pay their own travel and accommodation in Toronto. Fellows work in residence at The Image Centre or the university archives and submit a short report within a month of finishing.
