Business and Management Funding for Africans in 2027
Five funded routes into business and management, from a paid three-year graduate traineeship in Europe to a Nigerian skills programme paying one million naira to a hundred people.
Business is the field where the word scholarship misleads people most. Only one of the five programmes tracked here is a classic tuition award. The rest pay you to work, train or build something, and three of them never involve a university at all.
If you have been searching for an MBA scholarship and finding nothing, that is why. The money in this field moved.
A paid traineeship beats a bursary
FrieslandCampina Global Traineeship 2027 for Graduates (closed) from FrieslandCampina runs 36 months across Netherlands and Malaysia and is a job, not a study award. It takes graduates, rotates them through the business, and pays a salary the whole time. Applications opened on 1 September 2026 and close on 30 September 2026, with the intake starting 1 March 2027.
Three years is long. That length is the point: it is enough to leave with a track record rather than a certificate, and multinational traineeships are among the few routes that put an African graduate on a European payroll without a prior degree from a European university. Fluent English is required across all disciplines. No test score is named.
The application window is short and it repeats annually. If you are reading this after it closed, the useful move is to set a reminder for August rather than to look for something similar, because there is very little similar.
Open Doors Russian Scholarship 2027/28 for International Students is the tuition route
leading Russian universities run the Open Doors competition, which covers tuition and pays a stipend for study in Russia at undergraduate, master's, doctoral and postdoctoral level. Business and management sits alongside ten other eligible fields. Applications opened on 20 August 2026 and close on 1 November 2026.
Read the coverage line carefully, because it is unusually explicit. Tuition yes, stipend yes, travel no, insurance no, accommodation no. That combination is common and rarely spelled out this plainly, and it is the difference between a funded degree and a partly funded one. Budget the flight, the medical cover and the room yourself.
Programmes are taught in Russian or in English depending on the institution. Check which before you choose a university, not after.
Two programmes for people under 35
MTN Foundation ICT and Business Skills Training, Phase 8 (closed) from MTN Foundation is training rather than study: ICT and business skills, capped at age 35, restricted to Nigeria, and paying NGN 1,000,000 across 100 awards. A hundred places is a large field by the standards of anything else on this site. The deadline is 11 October 2026.
Anzisha Fellowship 2027 for African entrepreneurs aged 22 and under runs tighter. Anzisha takes African entrepreneurs aged 22 and under, opened on 29 September 2026 and closes on 10 November 2026. The age ceiling is the whole design: it exists to find people who started building before they were old enough to be taken seriously, and applicants who are 23 should not spend an evening on it.
Both are continental or national rather than global, which cuts the applicant pool by an order of magnitude compared with the open programmes above.
The rolling option nobody uses properly
WHO Internship Programme in Geneva for Students at World Health Organization in Switzerland has no deadline at all. The internship programme accepts undergraduate, master's and doctoral students on a rolling basis, and lists health, social sciences and business among eligible backgrounds.
Rolling deadlines get ignored because urgency drives applications. That is exactly why they are worth attention. A file submitted in a quiet month competes against far fewer others than one submitted the week a fixed deadline closes. The requirement is fluency in one of the working languages of the office you apply to, which for francophone applicants is often an advantage rather than an obstacle.
Matching the programme to where you actually are
The five split cleanly by career stage, and applying to the wrong tier wastes the most time.
Still studying: WHO Internship Programme in Geneva for Students and Open Doors Russian Scholarship 2027/28 for International Students are your two. One is an internship you fit around a degree, the other funds the degree itself.
Just graduated: FrieslandCampina Global Traineeship 2027 for Graduates (closed) is the strongest single option on this page in earnings terms, and the hardest to get.
Already building something: Anzisha Fellowship 2027 for African entrepreneurs aged 22 and under if you are 22 or under, and nothing else here, because the rest assume employment or enrolment.
Working and wanting to retrain: MTN Foundation ICT and Business Skills Training, Phase 8 (closed) if you are in Nigeria, which is a genuinely narrow answer and reflects how little continental retraining money exists in this field.
What these applications ask for that academic ones do not
Business funders read differently from university committees. Three things recur.
Evidence of delivery. Not a transcript, but something you finished: a business that traded, a club you ran, a product with users. Anzisha Fellowship 2027 for African entrepreneurs aged 22 and under is built entirely around this and the others weight it heavily.
Commercial reasoning. FrieslandCampina Global Traineeship 2027 for Graduates (closed) and MTN Foundation ICT and Business Skills Training, Phase 8 (closed) both want to see that you understand why an organisation would pay for the thing you propose. Applicants trained in academic writing routinely under-explain this because it feels crass. It is not crass here.
Mobility and constraint, stated honestly. If you cannot relocate for three years, say so and apply elsewhere rather than discovering it at the offer stage.
The calendar
Deadlines run from 30 September 2026 to 10 November 2026, with one rolling programme open throughout. That is a six-week cluster, which is uncomfortably tight if you are preparing more than one file.
Work backwards. The traineeship and the Russian competition both need documents from your university, and registrar offices are slow everywhere. Request transcripts in the first week you decide to apply, not the week before submission.
Verify every deadline on the funder's own page before you rely on it. Programmes in this field shift their dates more often than academic ones, and the official page is the only version that counts.
