Scholarships, grants and fellowships for Malian applicants 2027

Twenty-five open calls on this page take applications from Malian citizens. The first shuts on 5 October 2026, the last on 23 October, and just two write Mali into their rules. Four count as fully funded. Mali stays on GMT all year, so every published closing hour also appears here on a Bamako clock, which for now reads two hours less than a time printed for Berlin or Rome.

The October field for Malian candidates

Of the 25, fourteen are fellowships. Scholarships number six and grants four, plus one training course, from 24 organisations. The field tilts towards research careers. Postdocs have 11 openings, PhD and master's candidates seven apiece, people already in work six. Three leave the level open, and undergraduates get one name, The Image Centre Research Fellowships 2027 in Toronto for photography research. Social science leads with eight calls, humanities have six, climate and environment five.

Mali is written into two eligibility lists, no more. Chevening Scholarships 2027/28: One-Year UK Master's (closed) names it among countries on several continents, a worldwide pool. Mandela Washington Fellowship 2027 for Young African Leaders (closed) sticks to African nations. It offers 550 places to professionals in business and public policy, caps age at 35, and has taken applications since 22 September 2026.

The other 23 arrive through broader wording. Fifteen set no nationality limit. Two, ARC-GSSP Postgraduate Scholarships for African Students (closed) and African Climate Collaborative PhD Fellowships 2027 at UCT (closed), welcome all of Africa. Three restrict entry to sub-Saharan Africa, and the scholarships on three German master's courses are reserved for developing countries. Calls closing within a week are left out: a strong file takes longer.

Full funding, starting with the earliest deadline

AfriWay applies this label narrowly. A scholarship, fellowship or training course needs tuition and a living allowance from the same award, while a grant needs one of the two. Four listings qualify.

First comes Chevening Scholarships 2027/28: One-Year UK Master's (closed), due at 11:00 UTC on Tuesday 6 October, the same hour in Bamako. Any discipline qualifies for this year-long master's in the United Kingdom, and two years of work history are expected.

Later that day Knight-Hennessy Scholars 2027: Fully Funded Graduate Study at Stanford (closed) shuts, at 13:00 in California and 20:00 in Bamako. Stanford pays fees and living costs, plus an economy round trip every year, across as many as three years of master's or doctoral study. The money follows the degree you target when chosen, so fix the programme first.

Next is ARC-GSSP Postgraduate Scholarships for African Students (closed) on Wednesday 7 October, closing at 23:59 GMT, a minute before midnight in Bamako too. Every African nationality qualifies. Up to two years of postgraduate fees are paid in full, along with a living allowance and travel, for maths, engineering and climate-related study. Study happens in Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana or South Africa, the first two being Mali's neighbours.

The fourth, AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grants 2026 for PhD Researchers (closed), is the lone grant. Its limit is 23:59 UTC on Friday 16 October, identical in Bamako. It sends doctoral researchers from sub-Saharan Africa abroad for one or two months, paying travel and subsistence up to 2,300 or 3,000 euros by length of stay. It is a research trip, not a degree.

Three more awards cover most costs yet miss the label. At FOR-GHP Fellowship 2027: outbreak readiness for sub-Saharan Africa there is no tuition to pay, and the budget meets economy airfares, visa fees and lodging for all three workshops. Meals come daily, per diems never. At Mohamed Ali Foundation Fellowship 2027 at Durham University you get lodging, all meals, money for research travel and an honorarium once you finish. Leading for Humanity 2027: Tutu Foundation Leadership Programme (closed) funds the course, your room and your food, but not the ticket to South Africa.

West Africa, the Sahel, French and the developing-country places

The short answer first: none of the 25 is ring-fenced for West Africa or the Sahel, and none targets francophone candidates. In their place come wider regional calls and places for developing countries.

Sub-Saharan Africa is the scope of three calls. For doctoral work on climate, environment or agriculture, AGNES-BAYER Science Foundation Research Grant 2026 for PhD Students (closed) offers as much as 7,000 euros per person. It and its sister, the travel grant above, both demand English. Health professionals with two years in post can try FOR-GHP Fellowship 2027: outbreak readiness for sub-Saharan Africa, an 18-month outbreak-readiness fellowship hosted in Germany, Ghana and Uganda.

Two calls are continent-wide. With Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana among its four hosts, ARC-GSSP Postgraduate Scholarships for African Students (closed) is the most West African option on the page. African Climate Collaborative PhD Fellowships 2027 at UCT (closed) will back a dozen doctoral fellows, each for four years, in climate and environment or social science. Its listing names no sums.

In Germany, DAAD EPOS places for developing countries exist on three master's courses: marine biology through ISATEC (MSc Marine Biology), University of Bremen: DAAD EPOS 2027 (closed), renewable energy through Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies MSc, Oldenburg: EPOS 2027 (closed), international health through International Health MSc, Charité Berlin: DAAD EPOS Scholarship 2027 (closed). Each closes on 15 October 2026 and wants two years of professional experience. No listing of the three shows a country list or the scholarship's value, so check both on the official page.

French gets little room. Wherever a listing here mentions a language, English is among those required. French is a genuine asset only at Mohamed Ali Foundation Fellowship 2027 at Durham University, whose collection needs readers of French, Arabic, English and Ottoman Turkish. A Malian scholar with French and Arabic already holds two of those four keys.

Fifteen calls ignore nationality, mostly research posts with uneven pay. Cornell Atkinson Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sustainability 2027 pays each of its four fellows a salary of 65,000 dollars a year for three years. Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program 2027 in the United States (closed) quotes 45,000 to 65,000 dollars a year by category, and EUI Jean Monnet Fellowships 2027-2028 for Postdocs in Italy gives 2,850 euros a month to each of 20 fellows. Stipends or salaries also come with IAIFI Postdoctoral Fellowship 2027-2030 at MIT (closed), Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship 2027 at CRASSH, Cambridge (closed) and the four-month CEES Fellowship Program Spring 2027: Research Stay in Switzerland (closed). Coders and AI researchers can try Digital Science Catalyst Grant 2026 for AI tools that act on research (closed), a pot of up to 25,000 pounds, OpenAI AI and Teen Development Research Grant Program 2026 (closed), up to one million dollars per grant, or the 15-month Software Sustainability Institute Fellowship Programme 2027 (closed).

Every closing time on a Bamako clock

All these deadlines fall before Europe and North America put their clocks back. Until then, subtract two hours from times printed for Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Italy or South Africa, one hour from British times, and add four to seven hours to North American ones.
