Twenty-five calls open to applicants from Mozambique close between 5 and 20 October 2026. Four name the country, six are fully funded, and every published closing hour is converted to Maputo time.

Scholarships for Mozambicans 2027: Open Calls and Maputo Deadlines

Between Monday 5 and Tuesday 20 October 2026, 25 calls open to Mozambican applicants reach their closing dates. Four print Mozambique on their country lists. Six meet AfriWay's fully funded test, and three of those six are among the four that name the country. Published closing hours appear below in Maputo time, and a few land at lunchtime rather than midnight.

What Mozambicans can apply for now

Twelve of the 25 are fellowships. The rest are eight scholarships, four grants and a lone training course, run by 24 funders because a single network stands behind two of the grants. Postdoctoral researchers get the most options, at 10. Master's and PhD candidates have eight apiece, while five calls target people already employed. Three ignore level altogether, and one mentions undergraduates.

Mozambique appears by name on the lists of Chevening Scholarships 2027/28: One-Year UK Master's (closed), Mandela Washington Fellowship 2027 for Young African Leaders (closed), Commonwealth Master's Scholarships 2027/28 for Study in the UK and University of Sussex Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2027. The last two both come from the Commonwealth scheme, and neither list contains another Portuguese-speaking country. ARC-GSSP Postgraduate Scholarships for African Students (closed) and African Climate Collaborative PhD Fellowships 2027 at UCT (closed) welcome any African national. Among the regional calls, two want sub-Saharan applicants and three want citizens of developing countries, and Mozambique fits both descriptions. Fourteen calls apply no nationality filter, so there you compete with every continent.

The six fully funded options, by closing date

AfriWay reserves the fully funded label for scholarships and fellowships that cover both tuition and living costs, and for grants that cover living costs. Six calls earn it.

Tuesday 6 October, 13:00 in Maputo. Chevening Scholarships 2027/28: One-Year UK Master's (closed) shuts at 11:00 UTC, a lunchtime deadline for you. It names Mozambique and pays fees and living costs for a one-year UK master's in any subject, provided you have two years of experience.

Tuesday 6 October, 22:00 in Maputo. Knight-Hennessy Scholars 2027: Fully Funded Graduate Study at Stanford (closed) follows at 13:00 Pacific Time and takes every nationality. Scholars chosen for Stanford have tuition and fees paid for up to three years, plus a stipend for living and study costs and one economy return trip annually, all linked to the degree they are about to start.

Thursday 8 October, 1:59 in Maputo. ARC-GSSP Postgraduate Scholarships for African Students (closed) closes at 23:59 GMT on the Wednesday. Any African nationality qualifies. For as long as two years, a postgraduate student of maths, engineering or climate and environment has fees paid in full, draws a stipend and gets help with travel. You would study in Senegal, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire or South Africa.

Saturday 17 October, 1:59 in Maputo. AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grants 2026 for PhD Researchers (closed) closes at 23:59 UTC on the Friday. It sends a sub-Saharan doctoral researcher to an institute beyond their own borders, paying travel and subsistence of up to EUR 2,300 for a single month or EUR 3,000 for two.

Tuesday 20 October, 17:00 in Maputo. Commonwealth Master's Scholarships 2027/28 for Study in the UK closes at 16:00 BST and names Mozambique. For a master's lasting 12 months, the commission meets approved tuition in full, buys an approved return flight and pays GBP 1,712 monthly, or GBP 2,000 if your university sits in the London metropolitan area.

Tuesday 20 October, 17:00 or 18:00 in Maputo. University of Sussex Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2027 states 16:00 GMT and counts Mozambique among 11 eligible countries. Overseas PhD fees are covered in full, alongside a stipend, a return trip to the UK, fieldwork costs and a Research Training Support Grant. Britain is still on summer time that day, so plan for 17:00.

Some fellowships pay generously and still miss the label, since it also demands tuition. Cornell Atkinson Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sustainability 2027, for one, pays its fellows USD 65,000 a year and gives them another USD 12,000 yearly for research and travel costs.

Southern Africa, Portuguese speakers and developing countries

Nothing on the list is reserved for southern Africa, and nothing targets Portuguese speakers. Seven calls apply a regional or economic filter, and Mozambique clears all seven.

Southern Africa. The region shows up as a place to study, not as a condition of entry. ARC-GSSP Postgraduate Scholarships for African Students (closed) counts South Africa among four hosts, and Leading for Humanity 2027: Tutu Foundation Leadership Programme (closed) takes place there. The University of Cape Town runs African Climate Collaborative PhD Fellowships 2027 at UCT (closed), which, like ARC-GSSP Postgraduate Scholarships for African Students (closed), accepts any African passport. It has 12 doctoral places, each lasting 48 months, and its 23:00 SAST cut-off is 23:00 in Maputo too.

Sub-Saharan Africa. Both AGNES calls sit here. AGNES-BAYER Science Foundation Research Grant 2026 for PhD Students (closed) caps each award at EUR 7,000 for a PhD student working on farming, climate or the environment. AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grants 2026 for PhD Researchers (closed) is the mobility grant covered earlier. Each expects an online application in English.

Developing countries. Three German master's courses offer DAAD EPOS places, all closing on Thursday 15 October and all requiring two years of work experience: ISATEC (MSc Marine Biology), University of Bremen: DAAD EPOS 2027 (closed) in marine biology, Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies MSc, Oldenburg: EPOS 2027 (closed) in renewable energy and International Health MSc, Charité Berlin: DAAD EPOS Scholarship 2027 (closed) in international health. You apply to the Oldenburg degree a year ahead of the start, and Charité admits its next cohort in September 2027.

Portuguese speakers. No listing mentions Portuguese as an application language. Of the nine that name a language, all nine name English. Other Portuguese-speaking countries do share some lists with you. Chevening Scholarships 2027/28: One-Year UK Master's (closed) includes Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, Portugal and Brazil, while Mandela Washington Fellowship 2027 for Young African Leaders (closed) includes the four African states among them.

Every deadline in Maputo time, closest first

Maputo runs on Central Africa Time, UTC+2, all year. Johannesburg shares that clock, as do Germany, Denmark and Switzerland until central Europe ends summer time, after the last deadline here. The UK is an hour behind you, GMT and UTC two hours, the United States six to nine.

Where no hour is given, do not count on the evening. Submit a working day early.

Getting your file ready in Mozambique

Two years of work experience are required by Chevening Scholarships 2027/28: One-Year UK Master's (closed) and by each EPOS course, and four by AIAS Visiting Fellowships 2027: Unsalaried Research Visits in Denmark (closed), which pays no salary, so get your employer's written agreement to keep paying you. Applicants to Mandela Washington Fellowship 2027 for Young African Leaders (closed) cannot be over 35.

English is the main obstacle for graduates of Portuguese-medium universities. ISATEC (MSc Marine Biology), University of Bremen: DAAD EPOS 2027 (closed) requires C1 from anyone who is not a native speaker and did not complete their last studies wholly in English, so a degree taught in Portuguese will not exempt you. Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies MSc, Oldenburg: EPOS 2027 (closed) settles for B2 and names seven accepted tests, IELTS and TOEFL iBT among them. University of Sussex Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2027 wants a valid IELTS certificate. Without a recent score, check today whether a test result can still arrive in time.

Documents issued in Portuguese come next. CEES Fellowship Program Spring 2027: Research Stay in Switzerland (closed) accepts English only, merged into a single PDF, so transcripts and diplomas need translating first. Ask whether the translation must be certified.

For IAIFI Postdoctoral Fellowship 2027-2030 at MIT (closed), your referees' letters must arrive by 7 October. The Image Centre Research Fellowships 2027 in Toronto for photography research (closed) wants them to travel in one email with your application. At Bayreuth Academy Fellowships in African Studies, Germany (closed), the EUR 2,500 rate depends on confirmation from your institution or last funder that you receive no salary.

Last, price the gaps. Commonwealth Master's Scholarships 2027/28 for Study in the UK will not buy tickets for dependants, nor refund travel undertaken before the award is confirmed. At The Image Centre Research Fellowships 2027 in Toronto for photography research (closed), one CAD 10,000 stipend pays for the flight, the research and whatever else comes up. Leading for Humanity 2027: Tutu Foundation Leadership Programme (closed) pays beds and meals but not the fare, which from Mozambique is a regional hop rather than a long-haul flight.

Can I apply in Portuguese?

No listing says so. Every call that names a language names English.

Must I sit IELTS?

Only University of Sussex Commonwealth PhD Scholarships 2027 demands it. Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies MSc, Oldenburg: EPOS 2027 (closed) lists IELTS beside six other tests. ISATEC (MSc Marine Biology), University of Bremen: DAAD EPOS 2027 (closed) names a level, C1, but no test. No listing explicitly waives IELTS.

What is there for undergraduates?

The Image Centre Research Fellowships 2027 in Toronto for photography research (closed) alone names them, while Digital Science Catalyst Grant 2026 for AI tools that act on research (closed) and Leading for Humanity 2027: Tutu Foundation Leadership Programme (closed) accept any level.

Can I be funded without leaving Africa?
